Now enjoy some less traveled roads through Upper Bavaria as you make your way to the old city of Ratisbon, or Regensburg. This city, founded on a Roman settlement from AD 90 as a rich history and many noteworthy sites.
Almost 200 years ago Franz Gruber and Josef Mohr set the tone for Christmas worldwide by composing an first performing "Stille Nacht" - Silent Night. The original church is no longer around, but a beautiful chapel and memorial have been built on the site. If you group is small, you can fit in the chapel itself and sing your own arrangement of Silent Night, otherwise you can stand on the steps outside and perform for the many visitors who pass by.
Treat yourself to a walk down the most famous street in Salzburg, the Getreidegasse, where you can poke your head into various shops to pick up a sandwich or a pastry, or visit the town square for a bratwurst or monster pretzel.
You will participate with other musical groups in the Silent Night music festival. You'll be able to sing inside with a good audience and a nice accoustic. You'll also take time to listen to the other groups performing in the festival.
What could be better than Wienerschnitzel in Austria? Make sure to get the pommes fritz (french fries) and some Apfelsaft to make it truly authentic.
This evening, you are free to see what you like, but be sure to include Salzburg's annual Advent Christmas Market, where the smells of hot cider, roasted chestnuts, freshly baked apples and gingerbread evoke the Christmas spirit. You may also find Nativity figures, Christmas ornaments, children's toys and countless other treasures to bring home with you.
